Obituary

David Paul Belair, 66, of Port Huron, died Monday, August 31, 2015.

He was born February 25, 1949 in Port Huron to the late Gerald and Grace Belair. He married Patricia Hastings on October 6, 1972 in Port Huron.

Dave graduated from Port Huron High School in 1967 and from St. Clair County Community College in 1979. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1968 to 1972 during the Vietnam War, and was a member of the Michigan Air National Guard from 1973 to 1990. He was a member of American Legion Post 8, V.F.W. Post 796, D.A.V. Chapter 12 and Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 284. In 2012, he published a book, “Their Sacrifice - Immeasurable,” about the men from St. Clair County who died in Vietnam. It became a source of healing for their families and friends and other veterans who served in Vietnam. He volunteered with the Michigan Veterans Trust Fund, the Port Huron Memorial Day Parade Committee, Fort Gratiot Lions Club, Boy Scouts, Blue Water Area Girls Softball League, YMCA youth mentoring and Acheson Ventures volunteer.

Dave loved his entire family and is survived by his wife, Patricia; a son, Stephen Belair; a daughter, Alison (Aaron) Geister; two grandsons, Joshua and Ryan Geister; siblings, Connie (Bill) Williams, Elizabeth (Eugene) Hancock, Mary Belair (Richard) Poole, Gerald (Cindy Sue) Belair II, Paul (Sue) Belair, Margaret (David) Minis, Carol Lyons, Darlene Ogg and Dorothy (Robert) Smith; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Linda Belair; his stepmother, Marjorie Belair; and his stepfather, Harry Hunt.

Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Thursday in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.

Memorial services will be held 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 4, 2015 in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home. The Reverend Max Amstutz will officiate. Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Air Force and the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Council.

Memorial contributions may be made to V.F.W. Post 796, American Legion Post 8, D.A.V. Chapter 12 or Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 284.
