Martha L Krenke

July 29th, 1928 to October 25th, 2015

Martha Louise Krenke, 87, of Port Huron, passed away on Sunday, October 25, 2015 in Marwood Manor after a two year stay.

She was born July 29, 1928 in Port Huron to the late Henry and Sophia Gorte. She married Edward H. Krenke Jr. on November 11, 1961 in Port Huron. He died May 17, 2014.

Martha worked for many years for Dr. Schafer, and after his passing went on to work for Dr. John Miller until taking an early retirement in 1990 to care for her grandchildren.

Martha was a lifelong member of St. John’s United Church of Christ where she was involved in many capacities including Sunday School teacher, youth group leader, church choir, Board of Christian Nurture, Altar Guild, church decorating and Brownie and Girl Scout leader. Martha loved to read, work crossword puzzles, color with her grandchildren, knit, crochet and sew. She was extremely proud of the wedding gown she made for her youngest daughter, Elizabeth. Martha and her family traveled extensively throughout the United States as well as to Canada, England, Paris, Scotland and two trips to Yugoslavia with her husband, Edward. Martha and Ed enjoyed spending time in Florida every spring, especially when the rest of the family joined them. She loved and bragged about her grandchildren and all of their accomplishments.

Mrs. Krenke is survived by her two daughters, Ann Baker and Elizabeth (John) Sexsmith; four grandchildren, Amanda (Tony) Kuberski, Kristin (Tod) Johnston and Evan & Erin Sexsmith; two great grandchildren, AJ & Austin Kuberski; a brother, George Gorte; a sister, Barbara Gorte; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brothers, Henry, Reuben, Fred, Walter, David, Ben and Gerald; and sisters, Ruth, Marie, Florence and Esther.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 6, 2015 in St. John’s United Church of Christ with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. The Rev. Dr. Richard Hotchkin will officiate.

Inurnment will be in Lakeside Cemetery.
