JoAnn I Therrien

November 23rd, 1936 to February 2nd, 2016

JoAnn Isabell Therrien, 79, of Apple Valley, Minnesota and formerly of Port Huron passed away on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 after a courageous struggle with Alzheimer’s disease.

She was born on November 23, 1936 in Port Huron to the late Gordon and Freda Hilliker. JoAnn attended Port Huron High School and graduated in 1954. On July 13, 1957, she was joined in marriage to Donald Therrien at Trinity Lutheran Church in Port Huron.

JoAnn began working at Michigan Bell Telephone Co. during her junior year of high school on the co-op program. She retired as a manager in 1989. After taking the offer of early retirement, she pursued part-time employment as a cashier at Kroger and a tax preparer at H & R Block.

She was a long time member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She was baptized, confirmed and attended grade school and later was involved in the PTA and also was a secretary for the Lutheran Ladies Auxiliary at Trinity.

JoAnn enjoyed knitting, macramé, card-playing with her aunts and uncles and being with her many cousins and loved ones. JoAnn and Don were fortunate enough to spend their full retirement winters in Winter Haven, FL where they enjoyed several activities and met many new friends. She was able to spend many years with her grand-daughter, Mallory, who was her pride and joy.

She is survived by her husband, Donald; son, Stephen Therrien (Patricia Ohlert); daughter, Kelli (Jim) Amero; and granddaughter, Mallory Michaluk. She is preceded in death by her parents and also brother, Frederick G. Hilliker and many dear aunts and uncles.

Visitation will be from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Sunday in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 8, 2016 in Trinity Lutheran Church. Rev. Dr. Mark Madson will officiate.

Burial will follow in Lakeside Cemetery, Port Huron.
