Jane B Covington

Jane B. Covington, 79, of Marysville, died Monday, August 1, 2016.

She was born January 16, 1937 in Fort Worth, Texas to the late Walter and Eva Maye Breedlove. She married Robert B. “Bob” Covington on December 3, 1960 in Lubbock, Texas. Jane grew up in Brownfield, Texas and was a graduate of Lubbock High School and Texas Tech University where she earned a BA in Chemistry with a minor in German. Jane was an ASCP certified Medical Technologist, an accomplished pianist, extraordinary doll artist and a national master flower show judge emeritus.

Jane and Bob lived in Odessa, Texas until 1976 where Jane was active in designing costumes for the local theater, taught evening classes at Odessa College, and was very active in the Odessa Contemporary Garden Club. She was instrumental in developing the First Ladies exhibit at the Presidential Museum in Odessa. She was also the Troop Leader for Brownies and Girl Scouts and was always working on a craft of some kind. During the 10 years that she and Bob lived in Beaumont, Texas, Jane was an active member of the Milady Garden Club and the Beaumont Symphony Women's League. She also worked as a Medical Technologist at Baptist Hospital to put her two kids through college. Jane and Bob moved to Marysville, in 1986, and Jane was active in the Blue Water Garden Club of Port Huron, the Greater Detroit Flower Arrangers Guild, the Michigan Doll Makers Guild and served on the Marysville Beautification Committee. Jane won countless awards for her abstract flower design, photography and scrapbooks as well as her exquisite dolls and heirloom fabric costumes. Jane was generous with her time and talent and had a passion for teaching and encouraging others. She will be remembered for her talent, creativity, sense of humor and for mentoring so many aspiring arrangers, artists and friends.

She is survived by her husband, Bob; children, Carol Covington Sherron and Robert Walter “Rob” Covington; and grandson, David Sherron. She was preceded in death by her brother, Dean Breedlove.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 13, 2016 in the Marysville Funeral Home with visitation beginning at noon. The Rev. Kelly Pittman will officiate.

Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to the Michigan Garden Clubs Scholarship Fund or the Salvation Army.
