Guy C Provost

Guy C. Provost, 88, of Port Huron, died Sunday, August 7, 2016.

He was born August 25, 1927 in Port Huron to the late Murrel and Dorothy Provost. He married Eleanor “Sallie” Rinker on June 12, 1948. She died December 25, 2010.

Mr. Provost was employed by the City of Port Huron for 30 years and served as City Clerk and Personnel Director until his retirement in July, 1987. Prior to his city employment, he served in the U.S. Army with the Germany Occupation Forces. He also served 20 years in the Michigan National Guard, attaining the rank of Chief Warrant Officer.

Guy was a deacon and member of Our Saviour Lutheran Church. He was a member of American Legion Charles Hammond Post #8, B.P.O.E. Lodge 343 and a lifetime member of the Michigan National Guard Association. He was also very involved in the Port Huron Minor Hockey Association for several years, and served as the tournament director of the International Silver Stick. He enjoyed golfing and jogging, but his greatest enjoyment was his 62 years of marriage to his gal, Sal.

He is survived by two daughters, Linda (Tony) Cavaletto and Janet (Stuart) Currie; his grandchildren, Mathew Currie, Aaron Currie, Alison (Brian) Kerrigan, Elizabeth (Robert) Schnell and Nicholas Clark; ten great grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Robert Warshefski; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Jean George and Karen Warshefski.

A memorial service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, August 15, 2016 in Our Saviour Lutheran Church with visitation beginning at 11 a.m. The Rev. Donald Doerzbacher will officiate.

Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Army and the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
