John E. Simpson, Sr.

February 21st, 1926 to September 14th, 2017

John E. “Jack” Simpson Sr., 91, of Marysville, died Thursday, September 14, 2017 after a short illness.

He was born February 21, 1926 in Clio to the late Ernest and Mary Alice Simpson. He married Doris J. Hawtin on September 23, 1944. She preceded him in death on March 22, 2009.

In 1944 after graduating from high school, John enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps and served during WWII. After being discharged, he joined the Air Force Reserves where he proudly served for over 40 years, retiring as a Chief Master Sergeant. John was employed with National Cash Register until his retirement in 1980.

Along with many other organizations, John was a past Commander of the Marysville American Legion Post #449, member of the V.F.W. May O’Brian Post #8465 and was a long time member of the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Honor Guard. He was a Life Member and Past Worthy Patron of Cornell Marysville Chapter #93 O.E.S., Life Member and 32nd degree Mason with Genesee Lodge #174 F&A.M., Voiture 120 St. Clair County 40/8 and the Shriner’s and Elks Lodges.

He is survived by his children, John E. (Aileen Adriano) Simpson Jr. and Andrea Barss; grandchildren, Tamara Crutchfield, Brandon Simpson, Lt. Col.John Simpson III and Stephanie Barss; ten great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded by his son-in-law. Dr. Joseph Barss

Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in the Marysville Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 20, 2017 in the Marysville Funeral Home. Deacon Linda Crane will officiate. Burial will be in Riverlawn Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Air Force and the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
