Donald Nelson

May 18th, 1944 to November 11th, 2017

Donald Edward Nelson, 73, of Port Huron Township, passed away Saturday, November 11, 2017.

He was born May 18, 1944 in Escanaba to the late Donald N. and Bernice A. Nelson. He married Lynn C. Kibbe on June 27, 1970 in Our Saviour Lutheran Church.

Don was a graduate of Port Huron High School and then served in the U.S. Army. Before his retirement, Don installed seamless gutters and previously worked as a diesel mechanic with Ogden and Moffett Trucking. He had many pastimes including hunting, fishing, gardening, cooking, tinkering in his shop, and wintering in New Port Richey, Florida with Lynn. Most of all, he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.

He was an active member of the Moose Lodge #158 and the Blue Water Aerie #3702 Fraternal Order of Eagles. He was also a life member of the National Rifle Association.

Don is survived by his wife of 47 years, Lynn; sons, Scott (Yvonne) Nelson and Todd (Jen) Nelson; grandchildren, Trent and Ty Nelson, Paige Nelson, Noah and Ryan Nelson, Levi and Tyler Kruizenga; sisters, Dee Hamilton and Kathy Hawley; brother, Bob (Linda) Nelson; brothers-in-law, Jim Woody and Dean Kibbe; sister-in-law, Tammy Kibbe; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by sisters, Char Woody and Sharon (Jerry) Zandi; and brothers-in-law, Steve Hamilton, Bob Hawley and Brian Kibbe.

Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-9 pm Wednesday in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 12:30 pm on Thursday, November 16, 2017 in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 12 noon. The Reverend Donald R. Doerzbacher will officiate. Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Army and the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Honor Guard.

Memorials may be made to the Hunt of a Lifetime Foundation, a program that grants hunting and fishing dreams for children with life threatening illnesses.
