Leland Joseph “Butch” Purkiss, 80, of Marysville, died Wednesday, September 12, 2018. He was born March 6, 1938 in Port Huron to the late S. Edward and Dorothy Purkiss. He married Edith Fye on July 19, 1958 in Pilgrim Lutheran Church, Marysville. Butch worked with his brother at Engine Specialists and then went to work for Petitpren Anheuser-Busch, where he retired as fleet maintenance supervisor. He loved Harleys and was a life member of the Harley Owners Group and the American Motorcycle Association. He enjoyed camping and loved watching the activity on the river. More than anything, he loved spending time with his family and enjoyed hosting drop-in company. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Edith; three children, Dena (James Kornik) Cline-Kornik, Robert Purkiss (Deborah Cox) and Cheryl Sedwick (Rick Scott); ten grandchildren, Nathan (Alicia) Cline, Trevor (Paiam) Etminan, Erica (Chad) Capadagli, William Purkiss, Sara Purkiss, Amber Sedwick, Cole Sedwick and Donald Sedwick; 11 great grandchildren and one on the way; a brother, James (Verone) Purkiss; friend, Kathy Fletcher; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins, including special cousin, Carol Leffler. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Harry (Jeannie) Purkiss, Leo Langolf and Reinhart (Alice) Langolf; and a sister, Marie Langolf. Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 12 noon and 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, September 15, 2018 in the Marysville Funeral Home with a service following at 4 p.m. Butch’s niece, Brenda Lukovich, will officiate.
