William Strye

William J. Strye, 91, of Marysville, died Sunday, May 20, 2012.

He was born December 22, 1920 in Detroit to the late Frank and Ann Strye.

Mr. Strye was employed as a carpenter and cabinet maker for St. John’s Hospital prior to his retirement. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII, participated in the Battle of the Bulge and was awarded a Bronze Star. He later served in the Michigan National Guard retiring with the rank of Captain. He enjoyed woodcarving, fishing, playing cards, going to the casino, and square dancing. He was a member of the Eagles, American Legion, V.F.W., Knights of Columbus and St. Christopher Catholic Church.

He is survived by two children, Lt. Colonel James (Victoria) Strye U.S. Army Ret. and Carol (Al) DeLand; six grandchildren, Brian Strye, Major Monica (Shawn) Foley USAR, Christopher (Tina) DeLand, Angela DeLand, Joshua DeLand and Dr. Danielle DeLand; seven great grandchildren; several stepchildren, step grandchildren and step great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his two wives, Elizabeth and Margaret; a brother and two sisters.

Visitation will be 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday in the Marysville Funeral Home. Military honors will be conducted at 4:00 p.m.

Mr. Strye will lie in state from 10:30 until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 24, 2012 in St. Christopher Catholic Church. The Reverend Arthur Baranowski will officiate.

Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his grandsons and great grandsons.

Memorials may be made to Blue Water Hospice or St. Christopher Catholic Church.
