Raymond B Steemburg

February 28th, 1938 to September 13th, 2013

Raymond Bertran Steemburg, 75, of Fort Gratiot died September 13, 2013 in the Blue Water Hospice Home surrounded by his beloved family.

He was born February 28, 1938 in Brockway Township to the late Creighton A. and Isabelle Steenberg. He married Dorraine (Dolly) J. Herfert on June 21, 1958 in North Street.

Mr. Steemburg was a U.S. Army and Michigan National Guard veteran. As a young man, he worked as a cable spinner in the construction of the Mackinaw Bridge. He retired in 2000 after 43 years of employment at Kroger and Farmer Jack. He was an avid outdoorsman who taught his sons the right way to hunt and fish. He loved family holiday gatherings and some of his last words were “Don’t forget to take care of each other”.

He is survived by his wife, Dolly; five children, Timothy R. (Vicki) Steemburg, Lisa J. (Ronald) Szumski, Jeffrey T. Steemburg, Shawna L. (Bradley) Ross and Deana L. (Thomas Jr.) Moses; three sisters, Patricia (Bill) Meirendorff, Sue Locke and Geri Steemburg; 15 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Marion Murawski, a brother, Gary Steemburg and a daughter-in-law, Bonnie Steemburg.

A memorial service will be held at 1 PM on Monday, September 23, 2013 in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home. The family will greet friends an hour prior to service time. The Rev. Max Amstutz will officiate.

Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Port Huron Township. Graveside military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Council.
