Potter, 81, of Port Huron died unexpectedly, Thursday, May 17, 2012.<br /><br />	She was born March 29, 1931 in Port Huron to the late Wallace and Flora Child and was a lifelong area resident.<br /><br />	Mrs. Potter was employed for many years in the library at Keewahdin Elementary School and after her retirement she was active as a tutor with the Woodrow Wilson reading program. She was a member of Our Saviour Lutheran Church and the Marysville Card Club.<br /><br />	She is survived by three sons, Terry (Susan) Welch of Harrison Township, Randall (Cheryl) Welch of Royal Oak and Michael (Karen) Potter of Port Huron; four grandchildren, Cory and Kyle Welch, Ashton and Addison Potter; long time companion, Donald Porter; her sister, Marilyn Yeager; and several nieces and nephews.<br /><br />	She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Potter; brother, Fraser Wallace Child;  and sister, Barbara Klammer.<br /><br />	Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Monday in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.<br /><br />	Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 22, 2012 in Our Saviour Lutheran Church. The Reverend Donald Doerzbacher will officiate. <br /><br />	Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery.<br /><br />Memorials may be made to Our Saviour Lutheran Church or Woodrow Wilson School.<br /><br />]]></content:encoded>

    <content:encoded xmlns:content="http://purl.org/rss/1.0/modules/content/"><![CDATA[Frances Helen Balinski, 96, of St. Clair Township, died Monday, May 14, 2012 at home surrounded by her family.<br /><br />	She was born October 12, 1915 in Hamtramck to the late Walter and Agnes Szyska.  She married Thaddeus J. ?Ted? Balinski Sr. on February 26, 1938 in St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, Columbus Township.  He died October 31, 1998.<br /><br />	Frances was the heart of her damily. She made her house a home, a gathering place where all were welcome. She was a very loving, caring and generous person. She was an inspiration and a source of strength to all. She was a longtime member of St. Christopher Catholic Church.<br /><br />	She is survived by her sons, Thaddeus (Gale) Balinski of New Baltimore, William (Joey) Balinski of Forester, Leonard (Kim) Balinski of Lakeport, and Jack (Sherrie) Balinski, James (Shirley) Balinski and Richard Balinski, all of St. Clair Township; her daughters, Theresa (Ed) Strzelecki, Marjorie (William) Herpel and Deborah Balinski, all of St. Clair Township, and Patricia (William) Curtis of Midland; 21 grandchildren; 42 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Eleanor Wronski and Marie Szyska; a special friend, Sylvia; her entire Starpath family; and Blue Water Polka Boosters friends.<br /><br />	She was preceded in death by her grandsons, Daniel and William Balinski; great grandson, James Balinski III; brothers, Edward and Joseph Szyska; and sister, Julia Oss.<br /><br />	Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. Thursday in the Marysville Funeral Home.  A rosary service will be held at 7:30 p.m.  <br /><br />	Mrs. Balinski will lie in state at St. Christopher Catholic Church on Friday, May 18, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m.  The Reverend Arthur Baranowski will officiate.  <br /><br />	The Rite of Committal will follow in St. Philip Neri Cemetery, Columbus Township. Walters, 95, of Burtchville, died Saturday, May 12, 2012.<br /><br />	He was born March 13, 1917 in Brooklyn, NY, the son of the late Alfred J. and Hennie Walters. He married Valerie Smrcina on April 29, 1939. She died in 1985.<br /><br />	Mr. Walters was employed as a corrections officer with the State of Michigan at the Jackson Prison. He was a member of the Moose Lodge of Jackson and enjoyed shuffleboard while living in Florida.<br /><br />	He is survived by two daughters, Linda I. Clay of Lakeport and Sharon (Philip) Garbe of Mendota, IL; 14 grandchildren; and many great grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Day of Livonia; several nieces and nephews; and his companion and special friend, Margaret Parker of East Lansing. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael J. Walters in 2010 and a sister, Helen Viets.<br /><br />	Visitation will be Tuesday evening 7-9 p.m.in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home, 912 Lapeer Avenue, Port Huron.  <br /><br />	Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 16, 2012 in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home. She married Robert Leach, who died in 1990.<br /><br />	Mrs. Leach volunteered for many veterans' activities, including selling poppies, Toys for Tots, assisting at the V.A. Hospital, and decorating Christmas trees for hospitalized veterans. She worked at St. Mary Queen of Creation in New Baltimore for several years. Julie loved animals.<br /><br />	She is survived by three children, Joel (Gail) Leach, Noel (Pat) Leach and Julie (Keith) Grubbs; ten grandchildren, Brittany (LCPL Christopher, USMC) Davis, Amanda Leach, Brandi Leach, Robert (Jenny) Leach, Rick Leach, Kathryn Leach, Amy Leach, Brandon Grubbs, Ryan Grubbs and Kolton Grubbs; four great grandchildren, Logan Taft, Rileigh Leach, Haylee Leach and Christian Davis; two sisters, Janet O'Boyle and Karen Pistonetti; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Carol Champion; and a brother, Eugene Rycerz.<br /><br />	Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. Friday in the Marysville Funeral Home, 1200 Michigan Ave., Marysville. A Scripture Service will be held at 7 p.m.<br /><br />	Mrs. Leach will lie in state from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 12, 2012 in St. Edwards on the Lake Catholic Church, 6945 Lakeshore Rd., Lakeport. The Reverend Joseph Esper will officiate. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.<br /><br />	Inurnment will be in St. Peter Cemetery, Mt. She married John R. Ainsworth in 1937. He died in 1955.<br /><br />	Mrs. Ainsworth attended St. Paul Lutheran Church. She worked as a clerk at several local stores and helped at The Salvation Army Thrift Store. She enjoyed soap operas, especially "Days of Our Lives," crocheting, shopping and knick knacks.<br /><br />	She is survived by four children, Jackie (Mike) Kammer, Liz Roche, John (Nancy) Ainsworth and Penny (Ronnie) Pearson; 11 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; a great great grandchild; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Judith Koppel; two granddaughters, Heather and Angela; four brothers and two sisters.<br /><br />	Private graveside services have been held.<br /><br />]]></content:encoded>

    <content:encoded xmlns:content="http://purl.org/rss/1.0/modules/content/"><![CDATA[Carol Suyak, 63, of Marysville, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on Sunday, May 6, 2012 following a prolonged illness.<br /><br />	She was born October 12, 1948 in Stone, Kentucky to the late Forrest and Eloise Hays. She married James Suyak on June 15, 1974.<br /><br />	Carol enjoyed spending time with her family and socializing with friends, especially at the Junction Buoy. She was an avid Detroit Tigers fan who also enjoyed watching the Red Wings and Pistons. Carol was particularly proud of her Appalachian roots. She spent her years here on Earth acting as an angel, assisting with and providing medical care for others, often at their most vulnerable time of life. She will now spend eternity as God's angel in heaven, undoubtedly trying to help everyone she can. <br /><br />	Carol is survived by her husband of 37 years, Jim; two sons, Michael (Maren) Suyak and Patrick (Nicole) Suyak; two grandchildren, Lily and the soon-expected child of Michael and Maren; three brothers, Ronald (Patt) Hays, Robert (Jeanette) Hays and Richard (Jackie) Hays; close confidant, Christine Dowd and her family; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. She was preceded in death by a nephew, David; and close friend, Bill Dowd.<br /><br />	Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Wednesday and 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday in the Marysville Funeral Home. A Scripture Service and time of remembrance will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.<br /><br />	Mrs. Suyak will lie in state from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 11, 2012 in St. Christopher Catholic Church. The Reverend Arthur Baranowski will officiate. Pallbearers will be Ronald, Robert &amp; Richard Hays, Jim Fanto, Bill Dowd, Mary Allam, Dennis Hays and Chuck Seasons. McGraw, 65, of Marysville, died Saturday, May 5, 2012 at Blue Water Hospice House.<br /><br />	He was born October 31, 1946 in Port Huron to Gerald and Dorothy (Lazurka) McGraw. <br /><br />	Jerry graduated from Marysville High School in 1965 and served in the U.S. Army in Germany with the 101st Airborne. He also served in the National Guard for eight years. He was a Past Commander of Marysville American Legion Post 449. Jerry was employed at Prestolite in Port Huron during his early years and at Jordan Creek Plastics from 1997 to 2008. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, canning and was a master joke teller. His quick wit will be missed by many.<br /><br />	He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Cathy (Shirkey); and a son, Daniel.<br /><br />	He is survived by his brother, Edward (Gloria) McGraw of Port Huron; his sister, Mary Smith of Indian River; nephews, Eric (Rebecca) Larkin of St. Clair Shores, Jeffery (Suzanna) McGraw of Spring Arbor and David (Natalie) McGraw of Marysville; great-nieces, Bailee and Bethanie McGraw and Leah Grace Larkin; and great-nephews, Brennan, Aidan and Liam McGraw.<br /><br />	Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday in the Pollock-Randall Funeral Home, 912 Lapeer Avenue, Port Huron.<br /><br />	Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, May 7, 2012 in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home. The Reverend Michael P. Herman will officiate.<br /><br />	Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery. He married Mildred E. Sargent on September 18, 1948 in Port Huron.   Dick was preceded in death by his wife on December 16, 2010.<br /><br />	Mr. Wakeham was a car man with the Grand Trunk Western Railroad.  He was a U.S. Navy World War II veteran serving in the Pacific Theatre.<br /><br />	He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Ted (Linda) Oslin of Ann Arbor and Mrs. Bill (Debbie) Wells of Port Huron; four grandchildren, Amanda, Alyson, Cory and Jessica; two sisters- in- law, Virginia Sargent of Florida and Caroline Fernandez of Fort Gratiot;  and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his sisters, Vivian Nuske, Doris Wakeham and Joyce Cataline.<br /><br />	Visitation will be 2-4 &amp; 7-9 PM Tuesday in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home, Port Huron.  <br /><br />	A memorial service honoring Dicks life will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at Ross Bible Church. She married Karl A. Fasel on October 27, 1946 in Port Huron.  He preceded her in death on February 28, 2001.<br /><br />	She was a bookkeeper for Avoca Elevator, Weston Trucking and an accountant for Bechtel Corp. She was a member of Holy Redeemer Lutheran Church and enjoyed gardening, baking and senior bus trips.<br /><br />	She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Fasel (Bill Harmon) of Colorado; two sons, Jerry (Donna) Fasel, of Lansing and Jim Fasel (Dan Crow) of Perry; three grandchildren, Matt and Lisa Klakulak and Jenna Fasel; three great grandchildren, Joergen and Emile Klakulak and Landon Meeks; and nephew William (Karen) Smith of Crystal Lake, IL.<br /><br />	Visitation will be Sunday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.<br /><br />	Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 7, 2012, in Holy Redeemer Lutheran Church  with visitation an hour prior to service. The Rev. Andrew Schroeder will officiate.<br /><br />	Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Port Huron.<br /><br />	Memorials may be made to Fairview AFC, McLaren Hospice and Holy Redeemer Lutheran Church.
