Gerald R. “Jake” Dortman, 75, of Clyde, died Saturday, January 2, 2016 in Lake Huron Medical Center.

He was born June 28, 1940 in Port Huron to the late Henry and Lydia Dortman. He married Barbara Ann Garska on March 14, 1964 in Port Huron.

Mr. Dortman was a U.S. Army veteran. He retired in 1980 and was a 40-year member of Ironworkers Local #25. .

Jake loved antique cars, especially his 1957 Chevy. He enjoyed gunsmithing and his garage. He was a great tease and was adored by all who knew him, especially his nieces and nephews.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Ann; a daughter, Mary (Rob) Westergard of Midland; a granddaughter, Geri Ann Hanson of Midland; two brothers, Robert and John Dortman of Clyde; a sister, Dorothy Thompson of Marysville; many nieces and nephews; and a special niece, Dawn Robbins of Port Huron. He was preceded in death by a son, Gerald “Hoakie” Dortman in 1966, three sisters, Irene Woodman, Shirley Albert and Betty Jane Dortman and two brothers, David and William Dortman.

The family will host a memorial gathering at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 25, 2016 at 3864 Cribbins Road, Clyde Township. All friends and family are welcome. Military honors will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. under the auspices of the U.S. Army.

Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
