Ethel Hines

January 7th, 1922 to December 3rd, 2013
Evangelist Ethel Lee Hines, 91, of Port Huron Township, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 3, 2013.

She was born January 7, 1922 in Oma Mississippi to the late Montrossi (Brown) and John Tillman.

Ethel moved to Port Huron in 1934 and at the age of 23 was Baptized and Filled with the Holy Ghost at Zion Tabernacle Church. During her many years of dedication to Zion, Ethel taught Sunday School, was a leader of the “Young Peoples Organization,” a Missionary Leader, Prayer Band Leader and volunteer wherever she was needed.

Working under the late Elder Charles Brown, Ethel received her Ministry license at Zion Tabernacle. She taught and Baptized many people, even building up a church in her home town of Oma. She held Bible studies and ministered weekly at Marwood Manor and Evangelical Home for over 30 years. Her Christmas gifts, Caroling and caring were greatly appreciated by the residents.

She also used her gifts in her vocation and career of Housekeeping. Her love and caring for others in this capacity brought her many life-long friends who considered her family. Ms. Joann Stanfill of Georgia, Ms. Hattie Cochran of Nashville, Tennessee and the Mortimer Family of Port Huron were very dear to her.

Ethel will be deeply missed by her cousins, Robbin (Henry) Lowe, Rhonda Callahan and Malisse (Missy) Whitmore who called her “Desun” and loved her as a grandmother.

She leaves to mourn her passing a son, Terry Matthews of Bakersfield, CA; two brothers, John and Julius Tillman of Flint; three aunts, Mary Jane Nicholas, Malisse Callahan and Thelma Stringer; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins including Ken and Lonnie Thomas. Ethel was preceded in death by two brothers, Willie Frank Stevens and Jimmy Tillman; a sister Ernestine Fortenberry and her husband Raymond Hines.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 10, 2013 in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to the service.
