Gregory Mark Cates, 58, of Port Huron, died Monday, August 25, 2014.
He was born July 29, 1956 in Port Huron.
Mr. Cates was a member of Great Commission Church and was baptized at Only Believe Outreach Ministry. He was a hard worker and was proud to have helped build the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, Georgia. He enjoyed tending his plants and fish tanks, loved jazz and bicycling and was known as a sharp dresser. His grandchildren loved their Papa G.
He is survived by a daughter, Mounia (Carl) Allen; two sons, Gregory Cates and fiancé, Jeanette Haugh, and Marcus Cates; grandchildren, Paris Tate, Derrick Taylor, Carl Allen Jr., MaCiahla Allen, Cariana Allen, Joslyn Cates, Liazjanae Phillips and Leeniah Latham; his father, Ellis Harold Cates; his mother, Barbara Jean Cates; his fiancé, Mary Emma Brown, and her daughters, Tayla and Chabri Brown; three sisters, Lathis (Douglas) Stewart, Stephanie (Souleymane) Maizoumbou and Pamela Joy (Perry) Bankston; three brothers, Lyndon Harold Cates, Anthony Wayne Cates and Keith Darnell (Alqueelah) Cates; his children’s mothers, Shirley Duncan and Marci Bosman Cates; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by grandparents, Helen and Clemon Faulkner and Ellis and Pattie Mae Cates.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 29, 2014 in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home. Mr. Jimmy Cates, Gregory’s uncle, and Mrs. Emma Turner, sister of Mary Emma Brown, will officiate.
