Sarah R. "Miss Ruth" Cowan
Sarah Ruth Cowan, 80, of Port Huron Township, died Tuesday, February 17, 2015.
She was born August 4, 1934 in Berlin Township to the late Guy and Della Miller. She married Lewis D. Cowan on May 23, 1953 in the Capac United Methodist Church.
Miss Ruth was an assistant teacher at the Ross Bible Nursery School for 23 years. Her mother led her to the Lord when she was 5 and she spent the rest of her life serving Him. She was a longtime member of Ross Bible Church, attending back when they had drive-in services. At Ross, she worked with the Whirlybirds for 22 years, served as a deaconess with a heart for widows, taught Vacation Bible School each year and sang in the choir for most of her life. She was a member of Strawberry Lane Ladies Extension for 50 years.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Lewis; five children, Jean (Glen) Olson, Carolyn (Dennis) Ross, Gail (Michael) Nye, Roger (Lisa) Cowan and Fred Cowan; 14 grandchildren, Chris Olson, Chad (Kimberly) Olson, Clay (Colette) Olson, Carie Olson, Tim (Julia) Ross, Tyler Ross, Jimmy Sharrard, Jenny Sharrard, Victoria (Joe) Wilson, David Cowan, Anna Cowan, Elisabeth Cowan, Rebecca Cowan and Daniel Cowan; great grandchildren; Scout & Jersie Wicker-Olson, Reagen, Caden, Violet, Lily & Candiss Olson, Julian Altvater, Lincoln, Greyson & Callan Ross, and Isla Wilson. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kendra Ross, in 2008.
Visitation will be 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Thursday in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 20, 2015 in Ross Bible Church. Pastors Steve Scott and Tim Clark will officiate.
Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Port Huron Township. Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
