Louise Goodin
Louise Goodin 94, of St. Clair Michigan, died Sunday, May 24, 2015 in Port Huron after a short illness.
She was born January 11, 1921 in Fonthill, Kentucky to the late Riley and Emily Jane Withers. She married Hallet Goodin on March 24, 1947 in Ohio. He preceded her in death on June 7, 2001 after 54 years of marriage.
She is survived by a son, Gary Goodin of Marysville and his two daughters, Dana Westphal (Larry) and Stacy Priehs (Brad), both of Marysville; a daughter, Judy Kapanka (Richard) of Greensboro, NC, and their two children, Michelle Ebert (Howard) of Simsbury, CT and Thomas Kapanka of San Francisco, CA; a son, Ronald Goodin (Louann) of Brecksville, OH, and their two sons, Reid Goodin of Cleveland, OH and Blake Goodin of Brecksville, OH; a son, William Goodin (Donna) of Brighton, MI, and their two children, Ryan Goodin (Kathryn) of St. Joseph, MI and Jennifer Goodin of Brighton, MI; a son, Douglas Goodin (Carol) of St. Clair, MI and his two daughters, Sjanni Palazzolo (Nicholas) of St. Clair Shores, MI and Corri Goodin of Roseville, MI; a son, Bruce Goodin (Shari) of Port St. Lucie, FL and their daughter, Dawn Brown (Paul Kristensen) of Hobe Sound, FL; and a son, Thomas Goodin of St. Clair, MI, and his son Evan Goodin of Katy, TX.
Louise also leaves 12 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one grandchild, Adam Goodin, and a daughter-in-law, Pamela Goodin.
Louise grew up in rural Kentucky where she was one of eleven children. She worked hard even as a child, helping raise her younger siblings and helping her mother who took in laundry to help make ends meet. She moved to Cincinnati when still a teenager, where she later met Hal. Shortly thereafter they moved to Michigan and ultimately to St. Clair where they sent their seven children to Marysville High School. She was always there for her children in all their activities. In addition to raising her family, Louise worked for 15 years at Arnold’s Drug Store in Marysville, where many of her customers knew her by name.
Visitation will be 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Thursday in the Marysville Funeral Home, 1200 Michigan Avenue.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 am Friday, May 29, 2015 at Immanuel Lutheran Church of St. Clair where she was a long-time member. The Reverend Alan Schweiger will officiate. She will be interred at Riverlawn Cemetery, Marysville, MI next to her husband. Pallbearers will be Thomas Kapanka, Ryan, Reid, Blake and Evan Goodin, Nicholas Priehs, Christopher and Joshua Westphal and Caden Ebert.
She was a strong woman, and a strong presence in the lives of her children and their families, all of whom will miss her greatly.
Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church.
