Jean Powell Brogan

October 14th, 1919 to June 13th, 2015

Jean Powell Brogan, 95, of Port Huron died Saturday, June 13, 2015.

She was born October 14, 1919 in Port Huron to the late Robert and Mattie Powell. She married James F. Brogan on December 9, 1945 in Port Huron. He preceded her in death in 2002.

Jean was a member of the Port Huron High School Class of 1937, then received her Associates degree from Port Huron Junior College. Early in her career, she was employed with the Womens Benefit Association and the Grand Trunk Western Railroad. She was a lifelong member of First Congregational Church, the Womens Association, Circle 3, and served as church secretary for many years. Jean and her twin sister, Shirley, volunteered with the St. Joseph Mercy Hospital Auxiliary for over 25 years and the Sanborn Gratiot Memorial Home Auxiliary for 55 years.

She enjoyed tending her flower garden, sewing and knitting, playing bridge with her dear friends and traveling, especially vacationing at the family cottage in Grand Bend.

She is survived by her daughter, Kathleen J. Schneider; grandchildren, Brian (Jessica) Magsig, Marilee (Brad) Mann, Mark (Stephanie) Schneider and Paul (Alisha) Schneider; great grandchildren, Linus and Muriel Schneider, Alexandra and Miller Mann; sister, Carolyn Barker; special family friend, Bernie Lyons; nieces, Cheryl and Laura Frank, and Patti (Jim) Mielke; and nephew, Dr. Robert (Colleen) Barker.

She was preceded in death by her twin sister, Shirley Frank; a niece who she raised, Suzanne Swanson Magsig; son-in-law, David Schneider; brothers-in-law, Robert Barker and Lyle Frank; and three sisters-in-law, Helen, LaVeta and Kathleen.

Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 pm Monday in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be 11 am Tuesday, June 16, 2015 in First Congregational Church. Reverend Max Amstutz will officiate. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to First Congregational Church or the Sanborn Gratiot Memorial Home Auxiliary.
