Waino W Willing
Waino William Willing, 88, of Port Huron, died Monday, June 19, 2017.
He was born June 4, 1929 in Wakefield, Michigan, to the late Matti and Hulda Willing. He married Betty Lou Mertz on July 18, 1952 in Trinity Lutheran Church, Port Huron.
Waino served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He worked as a machinist at Mueller Brass, Prestolite Wire and PMR. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He enjoyed visiting family in the Upper Peninsula, camping in his younger years, reading, music and crossword puzzles. He loved attending his children’s and grandchildren’s events.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Betty; a son, David (Kim) Willing; two daughters, Marla (Dennis) Obertein and Beth Schwartz; six grandchildren, Timothy (Emilia) Obertein, Alexander McAuley, Devin Willing, Sandy (Rusty) Keeler, Shane (Sherry) Obertein and Shannon (Bill) Walz; five great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon McAuley; a son-in-law, Thomas Schwartz; and seven siblings, Martin Willing, Annie Kaleva, Toivo Willing, Veikko Willing, Urjo “Heikki” Willing, Elsa Watson and Ellie Hamilton.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 23, 2017 in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. Dr. Mark Madson will officiate.
Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Port Huron. Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Air Force and the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
