Mary Lou Warren

January 19th, 1932 to February 4th, 2018

Mary Lou Warren, 86, of Green Valley, Arizona, died Sunday, February 4, 2018 following a short illness.

She was born January 19, 1932 in Port Huron to the late Samuel and Mary Warren.

Mary Lou graduated from Port Huron High School and went on to obtain bachelor’s and master’s degrees in elementary education from Michigan State University. She was a dedicated teacher in the Port Huron community, teaching fourth grade at Garfield Elementary for many years. Later, she was an intern consultant with the Michigan State Teachers Training Program. She retired from Port Huron Area Schools. Mary Lou was active in many educational associations and served on the Board of Trustees for the Museum of Arts and History, and the Board of Directors of the St. Clair County Historical Society. She was also a member of the Michigan Historical Society and the AAUW. In 1966, she was recognized by the Outstanding Young Women of America.

Mary Lou first went to Green Valley as a snowbird and later retired there permanently. She loved people, food and culture. For many years there, she was involved in costumed reenactments of the lives of women who lived at the Tubac Presidio and at Tumacacori when it was an active mission. She travelled extensively throughout the United States, Mexico, the Caribbean, Russia, Hawaii and Cornwall, England. She had many hobbies and collections over the years, was an avid reader, and loved crossword puzzles.

She is survived by a nephews, Richard (Karen) Faust of Fort Gratiot; and two nieces, Patricia (Ronald) Dlugowolski of Marysville and Mary Jo (Joseph) Buongiorno of Darien, Illinois. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Doris Warren and Agnes Faust.

Private family services have been held.
