Harry W Stark

August 29th, 1932 to August 12th, 2018

Harry W. Stark, 85, of Marysville, went home to be with Jesus on August 12, 2018, at home surrounded by his family.

He was born on August 29, 1932 in Marysville to the late Eugene and Agnes Stark. He married the love of his life, Delores (Dorrie) Caulkett, on July 22, 1960.

Harry joined the U.S. Navy in 1954 and served proudly on the USS Coral Sea. He worked for Detroit Edison for over 41 years, beginning his career as a lineman and retiring as the General Foreman of Overhead Lines in 1994.

Harry was baptized at the Marysville United Methodist Church and was a life-long member. He had a deep faith that was displayed through his many kind actions rather than words.

Harry had a great love for the city of Marysville which he called the "Dream City". He attended the Marysville Schools, graduated from Marysville High School in 1950 and attended Port Huron Junior College. Harry was a talented athlete throughout his life and especially loved playing, football, basketball, baseball and golf. He was ecstatic to get a "hole-in-one" while golfing in Reno, Nevada.

Harry was a firm believer in giving back to the community. He was a volunteer fireman and volunteer at Port Huron Hospital for many years. He was very involved in city politics, serving 6 years on the council and 8 years as the Mayor and always strove to lead with integrity. He carried on the Masonic tradition of his father and grandfather by serving as a life member and Past Master of Marysville Lodge #498. He was a member of Order of the Demolay, Royal Arch Masonry, Scottish Rite, Knight of Templar, Moslem Shrine, and Royal Order of the Jesters.

Harry was most proud of his family and the friends he considered extended family. His countless acts of kindness were most often done quietly without others knowing. He will forever be remembered for his humor, practical jokes, and giving heart.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Dorrie; and beloved children and grandchildren: son, Paul (Nann) Stark of Discovery Bay, CA; daughters, Karri (Dean) Murayama of Discovery Bay, CA and Kristi (Denny) Socha of Marysville, MI; grandchildren, Kelcie and Garrett Murayama, Cameron Socha, Brennan Socha and fiancée Elizabeth Buda, Hannah Socha, and Emily and JP Stark; his brother, Tom (Carolyn) Stark who he was especially close to; his sister, Donna Gwisdala; and nieces, nephews and countless close friends, including Bob, Lisa, Robert and Courtney Ross.

Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. on Thursday in the Marysville Funeral Home. A Masonic Service will be held at 7 p.m. followed by a time of sharing memories of Harry’s life.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 17, 2018 in the Marysville United Methodist Church with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. The Rev. Barbara Welbaum will officiate. Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Navy and the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Honor Guard. Honorary pallbearers will be Tom Stark, Jim Eagen, Bob Miller, Timm Lenn, Durnell Stephens, Steve Down, Malcom Smith, Tom Anglebrandt, and David Headlee.
