John Michael Plahutnik, 72, of Lakeport, died Tuesday, September 3, 2019.

He was born February 3, 1947 in Hamtramck to the late Sophie and John Plahutnik Sr.

John was a 1965 graduate of Cass Tech High School and graduated from Lawrence Technological University. He was an architect, especially talented in architectural drawing, and a passionate artist. John was a member for over 50 years of the Slovene National Benefit Society. He was a talented softball pitcher, enjoyed golfing, and was very proud to have ridden his bicycle across the country. He was kind to all and made friends with everyone he met.

He is survived by a daughter, Carrie Plahutnik (Ken Heuvelman), and her mother, Jane Thomas; a son, Jack Plahutnik, and his mother, Suzanne O'Brien; grandchildren, Carson and Owen Heuvelman; stepson, Dylan (Brandy) Shippey; lifelong childhood friends, Ed Necefer, Steve Chulig, Gary Sochacki and Phil Cupelli; an ex-wife, Fran Weis; and many other dear friends, including Patricia. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert "Bob" Plahutnik.

A memorial reception will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. on Monday, September 16, 2019 at the Exquisite Corpse Coffee House. An art show of John's works will be held from October 5 to 30 at Studio 1219 with a formal reception on Friday, October 11, 2019 at 5 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to Carrie Plahutnik for a college fund for John's grandsons.
