Obituary

Janeaster Miller, 92, of Port Huron, went home to be with the Lord peacefully at home on Wednesday, June 10, 2020.

She was born April 8, 1928 in Elberton, Georgia to the late George and Sallie Bowman. She married William H. Miller Sr. on October 17, 1970 in Port Huron. He died May 27, 2003.

Janeaster attended Blackwell High School in Elbert County, GA and worked as a home health aide at Frances Assisted Living for many years before she transitioned into a nurturing homemaker. She had many hobbies, including gardening and making meals that would go on to be family recipes. Janeaster was known for her warm heart and unique generosity for her family and community. She loved the Lord, accepting Christ as her Savior at a young age, and enjoyed being involved with the church ministries such as the Mother’s Board at Mount Olive Baptist Church and then Restoration Christian Community Church.

She is survived by her children, Dale Jones, Michael (JoAnn) Jones, Gerald Jones, Douglas Jones, and Kim Miller-West, all of Port Huron, Janet Davis of Columbus, Ohio, Kenneth (Ingrid) Jones of Munich, Germany, and Karen Jones of Houston, Texas; three step-daughters that she raised, Alkynee (Hippy) Moses, Felicia Sumner and Ronnie Miller; a brother, Bobby Bowman Sr. of Atlanta, Georgia; sister, Maris Wells of Elberton, Georgia; fifty grandchildren, including Kimberly Jones, Dominique Stafford, Prince McMillian, Erica “KoKo” Russell, Douglas Jones Jr., Melony Miles, and Harry E. Jones Jr.; one hundred and fifty one great grandchildren; eighteen great-great grandchildren; one great-great-great grandchild; nieces; two namesakes, Aleeyah Janeaster Stafford and Alana Rae Janeaster Hawkins; nephews, and other loving relatives and friends; and loving caregivers, Zambria Rogers and Lori Edwards. She was preceded in death by children, Robert Jones, Harry Jones, Shirley Jones, Joe Jones, Mae Ella Morgan, Janice B. Witherspoon, Clarence “C.C.” Miller and Henry "Hank" T. Jones Sr.; four sisters, Ruby Hunt, Dora Allen, Crola Rucker and Lila Allen; and five brothers, Wilbert Bowman, Johnny H. Bowman, Baby Cornell and Willie Bowman.

Private family funeral services will be held. The Reverend Carl E. Miller, Sr. will officiate.

Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery.
