Stephen J Ruebelman

Stephen J. Ruebelman, 81, of Port Huron, Michigan, on March 8, 2020 went to be with the Lord. Steve was born in Detroit, Michigan to the late Walter and Grace Ruebelman. His family moved to Lake Orion when Steve was in the 4th grade. He graduated from Lake Orion High School, president of his graduating class, awarded an Evans Scholar Scholarship and attended the University of Michigan. After graduating from U of M, he began a very successful teaching career at Dryden High School; teaching history, driver education, assistant coaching in football and basketball and coaching golf. After four years at Dryden, he was hired at St Clair County Community College where he taught Political Science, Michigan History, Multi-Cultural classes and mentored his students for over 33 years. After 37 years of teaching, he retired. Steve then enjoyed book scouting activities for numerous antiquarian book stores in Michigan, Georgia and Florida. He was a member of the Michigan Hemingway Society and S.O.N.S. of Port Huron. Steve is survived by his wife, and high school sweetheart, Sonja Marlene (Matteson) Ruebelman; their children, Patti (Tom) Burke, Penny (Al) Shults, Pamela Ruebelman, Charles (Rosalie) Ruebelman and Steve Ruebelman Jr.; 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; brother, Ken (Martha) Ruebelman; sisters, Margo Wright and Janet Ruebelman; and nieces, nephews and many cousins. Steve loved God, his family, community, research, higher wisdom, books, golfing and dancing, winters in Florida and all of outdoors. Steve was a loving husband, father and friend and he will be dearly missed. Steve’s Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Hillside Wesleyan Church 5114 N.
