Obituary

Barbara Jean Counterman, 68, of Port Huron,died Thursday, June 18, 2020.

She was the oldest of six siblings, born May 9, 1952 in Eugene, Oregon to the late Leo and Katherine Elizabeth Cammeron. Her given name at birth was actually Saint Barbara Jean Cammeron, but this was not transferred to her birth certificate.

Barbara joined the Oregon Army National Guard in 1979 and served proudly until her discharge in 2003. During this time, she worked as a field medic, engineer, and trainer, and earned several honors including an Army Commendation Medal. A woman of many talents, she also worked as a CNA, baker, and waitress at different points in her life. Barbara loved to help people. She was a volunteer van driver for the American Red Cross, drove veterans to medical appointments, enjoyed ringing the bell for the Salvation Army, and volunteered with the U.S.O.

She is survived by three daughters, Katrina Ann (Kevin W.) Maynard, Sabrina Marie Wilson and Elizabeth Nadine Wilson; two grandchildren, Lacie Elizabeth (James) Hallenback and Edward Lewis (Kathleen) Decker-Maynard; 8 great grandchildren, Quira, Auira, Lorly, Myrah, Liam, Caden, Avery and Arabella; and her daughters' father, Bruce Douglas Wilson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Joe Counterman.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Sunday, June 21, 2020 in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home. Celebrant Laurie Wilson will officiate. Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Army. Friends are welcome to watch the service livestream by going to Barbara's obituary page on the funeral home website.
