Patrick Shivers

December 13th, 1946 to July 12th, 2020

Patrick George Shivers, 73, long time resident of Port Huron and Marysville, passed away July 12, 2020 after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Pat, as he was lovingly known to family and friends, was born to James and Mary (Carroll) Shivers on December 13, 1946 at Mercy Hospital in Port Huron, Michigan.

Pat graduated from Port Huron Northern in 1965 and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps upon his graduation. He spent three years defending his country in the Vietnam War as a forward air controller and was a loyal patriot to the day of his death. Upon his return to the states he pursued a career in sales at Sears Corporation within the furniture industry. He was known and recognized for his problem-solving skills, his honesty, and personable countenance. Pat transitioned from sales into a long-time career within the insurance and securities industry. He worked for Harvest Insurance Agency, Inc., G.E. Financial, and progressed to an independent securities representative for Sigma Financial Corporation. Pat was loved and respected by the countless customers and lives he touched in his thirty-seven years of service.

Pat married his soul mate and “forever love”, Gaye E. Tegge, on May 1, 1971, at a beautiful ceremony held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Port Huron, Michigan. Their marriage was a testament of love and dedication that spanned the course of forty-nine years, three children, and eleven grandchildren.

Patrick was a valuable asset to his children’s lives. He never missed a game or performance and was often found to coach, train, or mentor their sports teams. He was also passionately involved in Boy Scouts of America as a troop leader (216) for ten years. Both of his sons achieved Eagle Scout status during his tenure as Scout Master. He is fondly remembered by the several young lives he mentored.

He is survived by his loving wife, Gaye Ellen Shivers; his children, Cory T. (Tamara) Shivers, Todd M. (Crystal) Shivers, and Julie R. Shivers; his brother, Jim (Mary Rose) Shivers; and sisters, Marylis Trewhitt, and Jane Kemeling. He is affectionately remembered by all of his grandchildren: Austin (Hannah), Calen, Madison, Emmaline, Chase, Morgan, Liam, Michael, Lydia, David, and Elizabeth. Pat is preceded in death by his father, James; mother, Mary (Carroll); sister, Carol; and brother, Thomas “Tommy”.

A memorial will take place on August 22, 2020 at 11 a.m. at Riverlawn Cemetery in Marysville, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Disabled American Veterans.
