Barbara Elaine Gorte, 83, of Port Huron, passed away on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 after a short stay in McLaren Port Huron Hospital with her nieces, Ann and Beth, by her side.

She was born August 31, 1938 in Port Huron to the late Henry and Sophie Gorte.

Barbara graduated from Port Huron High School in 1956 and Eastern Michigan University in 1960 with a degree in teaching. She worked many years as a history teacher in the Dearborn School District. Barb was a lifetime member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, where she was involved in many church positions, including handbell choir, governing boards, teaching confirmation classes and was a God’s Gardener working in the church gardens.

Barb enjoyed golf, reading, crossword puzzles, classic movies, classical music, theatre and crime shows on TV. She loved travelling and going out of state to visit beloved friends.

She loved visits from all of her family, but visits from the little great great nephews and niece, A.J., Austin, Amelia and Lucas, brought her much joy and many smiles to her face. She would brag to everyone about how special they were.
