Jane Lois Perukel, 81, of Marysville, died Saturday, January 8, 2022.
She was born June 17, 1940, in Port Huron to the late Grant and Lois (Cook) Bigger. She married Peter Perukel on December 27, 1969, and he preceded her in death in 1994.
Jane was a 1958 graduate of Port Huron High School. She earned an associate’s degree from St. Clair County Community College, a bachelor’s degree from Wayne State University and then a master’s degree in Librarianship from Western Michigan University. She was employed by Port Huron Schools as a teacher and librarian for 30 years before her retirement in 1997. She also worked as a librarian at the G. Lynn Campbell Library in Kimball for 8 years. Jane loved spending time with her friends, especially at her place in Marine City on the St. Clair River. She also enjoyed traveling, especially road trips, “mystery trips” and to Mackinac Island.
She is survived by her daughters, Linda Perukel and Dianne Perukel; sister and brother-in-law, Peggy and Dan Bennett; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Lucy and Ben Lathrop; nieces and nephews, Rebecca (Mike) Cooper, Jennifer (Jude) Stratford, Andrew (Stephanie) Bell and Dan Bankson, along with great nieces and nephews, Joseph, Jenna, William, Brad, Bridgette, Gretchen, Ava, Tabitha Jane, and Elizabeth.
The family is planning on a memorial in June 2022.
Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Port Huron.
