John D "Jack" Levin
John Donald “Jack” Levin, 94, of Port Huron, was called home to be with his Lord on Saturday, November 12, 2022. God is good!
He was born December 4, 1927 in Alpena, Michigan to the late John F. and Lillian Levin. He was baptized on July 12, 1928 at the home of Oscar and Hilda Peterson by the Reverend J. VerStraate of First Presbyterian Church. He married the love of his life, Janice Flinchbaugh on October 28, 1950 in Port Huron. Their Christian union of 66 years was blessed with three children, Richard, Paul and Lori.
Jack graduated from Alpena High School in 1945 and served in the U.S. Navy until July of 1946. He was stationed in Kwajalein Atoll when the atomic bomb test took place on nearby Bikini Atoll. He attended Port Huron Junior College from 1946 to 1947 and transferred to Michigan Technological University where he graduated in 1950 with a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering.
Following graduation, he was recalled to active duty and served two years in the U.S. Navy aboard the Destroyer Escort U.S.S. Hanna. He saw duty in China, Japan and Korea escorting aircraft carriers. He later received an M.B.A. from Wayne State University in 1972.
Jack retired from Mueller Brass in 1990 after 37 years of service and held management positions as Quality Control Manager, Technical Manager and Rod Mill Superintendent. He was a Certified Quality Engineer. Following his retirement, he taught a variety of subjects for St. Clair County Community College, both on campus and on site at manufacturing operations. He also organized and taught classes for those interested in becoming certified as Quality Engineers or Quality Technicians.
Jack was confirmed and joined Faith Lutheran Church on June 23, 1968 and faithfully attended and served as an usher, greeter, reader, Bible class leader and member of the board of Elders, Education and Stewardship. He also served as Vice Chairman and Chairman of the congregation.
Things that gave Jack pleasure were sharing life with Janice and having the children and grandchildren around as often as possible. He also enjoyed resolving problems and improving operations during his work life and enjoyed teaching students who wanted to learn at the community college. He especially enjoyed sharing the message of Jesus Christ during the times he led Bible class and serving in some capacity around the church.
He is survived by his son, Paul (Michelle) Levin; daughter, Lori (Patrick) Morrill; grandchildren, Jonathan Howe, Jason (Amanda) Howe, Ryan (Katie) Levin, Jared (Addie) Levin and Whitney (Adam) Emeigh; great grandchildren, Tyler Howe, Rylee Howe, Linus Emeigh and Grayson Levin; Godchildren, Jill and Tim Setter and Aaron Smith; and many cherished nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice Levin; and son, Richard Levin.
