Eugene S Korte
Eugene Sylvester Korte, 95, of Alpena, formerly of Port Huron, passed away Friday, January 6, 2023.
He was born on April 4, 1927 in Leola, South Dakota. Eugene served in the U.S. Navy for three years before meeting Audrey Dalbec whom he would marry on September 18, 1948 in Walmatosa, Wisconsin. The two of them then moved to Port Huron. Eugene went to work at the Port Huron Sulphite and Paper Company for four years before landing at Grand Trunk Railroad where he would retire in 1988 after 36 years. He and Audrey loved to travel, dance and socialize with many friends. Eugene also enjoyed playing golf and helping others. Eugene was a member of the American Legion and St. Mary Catholic Church of Alpena.
He is survived by two daughters, Sharon (Richard) Fawcett and Katherine Korte; three grandchildren, Yvonne (David) Denslow, Marc Fawcett and Alisha (Cory) Allen; and four great-grandchildren, Ethan and Alex Denslow and Madison and Colin Allen. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Audrey.
A memorial visitation was held in McWilliams Funeral Home, Alpena.
Military honors will be held under the auspices of the United States Army and the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Honor Guard at 4:45 p.m. Friday, January 27, 2023 followed by a memorial visitation from 5-7 p.m. in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
