Virginia Mae Anderson
Virginia Mae Anderson, 87, of Fort Gratiot, died Tuesday, January 10, 2023.
She was born May 30, 1935, in Wilson Township to the late Chester and Joanna Manning. She married William D. Anderson on August 25, 1956, in Community of Christ, Lachine, Michigan.
Virginia was a graduate of Alpena High School, Alpena Community College and Central Michigan University. After beginning her teaching career in a one-room schoolhouse, Virginia was an elementary school teacher in Alpena Public Schools for many years until her retirement in 1994. She was a past member of MEA, MARSP and the Thunder Bay Arts Council and was a lifelong member of Community of Christ where she held numerous leadership positions both at the congregational and district levels. She and Bill moved to Fort Gratiot in 2000 to be closer to family. Virginia enjoyed sewing, quilting, reading and visiting. She cared deeply for all people.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Bill; four children, David (Cheryl) Anderson, Kevin (Nanette) Anderson, Sheryl (Kirk) Kramer and Jeffrey (Vonceil) Anderson; five grandchildren, Jordan Anderson (Hector Rivas), Benjamin Kramer, Kirsten (Cullen) Willard, Bryce (Becky) Clegg-Anderson and Onalee Anderson; two great grandchildren, Linus and Wren Willard; five sisters, Carol (Russ) Lewis, Kaye (Richard) Lewis, Audrey (Gary) Monette, Debby Manning and Lorie (Tom) Skiba; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Jill Renee; and sister, Barbara Jane (Bill) Kraft.
Private family services have been held and burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Alpena, Michigan.
