William E Willis
William Eugene Willis, 80, of Lakeport, MI, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 27, 2023 with Denise, Katie and Brett by his side.
He was born and raised in Danville, Illinois to the late William Everett and Virginia Rose (Siner) Willis.
After high school, Bill attended and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from General Motors Institute (GMI) in Flint, Michigan. He earned a full fellowship to Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana where he graduated with a dual Master’s degree in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering. His career as a senior staff administrator at General Motors gave him the opportunity to see the world and experience many different cultures. In addition, while at GM he attained a patent in the iron pour process. After GM, Bill continued his engineering career for several years at Kohler Co. in Kohler, Wisconsin and other engineering positions at different corporations.
Prior to retiring in 2000, Bill married his best friend, Denise M. Corrigan on May 26, 2000. Together they traveled to several places and created many memories. Bill and Denise retired to Tawas City, Michigan in 2006 where they lived and enjoyed the river life on the Tawas River for 17 years. Bill served in different capacities within the Tawas City government for several years. Together, Bill and Denise enjoyed everything nature had to offer, especially feeding the birds and bird watching. On July 1, 2022, they moved to Lakeport, MI after purchasing a condo on Lake Huron to be closer to family.
Bill was a humble, positive man and a generous, grateful soul who loved the Lord. He was truly a wonderful loving husband, father and grandfather. He really enjoyed being with family and friends. Everyone will tell you that Bill was known for his big smile.
He is survived by his loving and caring wife, Denise; loving daughter, Katherine A. (Brett) Howell; granddaughter, Alexandra K. Howell; feline companion, Callie Maria; extended Corrigan family; and special Tawas friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws, John and Anita M. Corrigan.
Bill’s wishes were to be cremated and no funeral service is planned.
