Joseph M Kalish

August 23rd, 1939 to May 13th, 2024

Joseph Michael Kalish, 84, of Port Huron, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Monday, May 13, 2024. Born on August 23, 1939, in Detroit to the late Helen and Frank F. Kalish Sr., Joe lived his life showing kindness and care to others.

He attended St. Stephen Catholic Schools and graduated from Port Huron High School in 1957. Joe was a dedicated employee, spending 52 years with A&P and Farmer Jack, 49 of those years as a meat cutter and manager, until his retirement in 2004. He formed lifelong connections and had many wonderful memories of his working years.

Joe's impact extended beyond his workplace and home. In his younger years, he enjoyed the time he spent coaching Little League, where he was able to instill confidence and teach sportsmanship to young players, many of whom still speak of him fondly. More recently, Joseph found joy and friendship at Porthaven Manor, where he resided for the past eight years. There, he became the heart of the community, with a smile for everyone and a knack for making newcomers feel welcomed and appreciated. The staff and residents at Porthaven became extended family not only to Joe, but to his children and grandchildren as well.

He leaves behind his beloved family of four daughters, Kelly (Ronald) Strilcov, Michelle (Lee) Kinna, Jerilynn Kalish (Kevin Schleweis), and Chanda Kalish; two sons, Michael (Amy) Kalish and Joseph Kalish (Misty Conley);16 grandchildren, Jessica, Daniel and Jeremy Marshall, Bradley Oliver (Jennifer Silorey), Dillon (Morgan) Barr, Brandon, Trevor and Megan Kalish, Skylar Currier, Maggie Kalish, Dakota and Kaylee Conley and Damarion, Aniyah, Josiah and Kennedi; nine great grandchildren; and even one great great grandchild. He is also survived by his brother, Frank (Jan) Kalish, and a large extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents; best friend and former wife, Rebecca Kalish; and sister, Gloria Stover Clarke.

A funeral service honoring his faith and life will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, May 18, 2024 in Hillside Wesleyan Church with visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. The Reverend Nate Neihof and the Reverend William Kinnan will officiate. Joe's cherished grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
