Gladys Reckinger
Gladys Evelyn Seifert Reckinger, 99, of Port Huron, a longtime area resident, died at home on March 18, 2012, just shy of her 100th birthday.
She was born April 9, 1912 in Clyde Township to the late Burt and Nora Atkins.
In her young years, Gladys played Hawaiian guitar in concerts and churches under the direction of Professor A.E. Barney in the Port Huron Guitar Club. She was a former member of St. Edward on the Lake Catholic Church and Our Saviour Lutheran Church and currently attended St. Martin Lutheran Church.
In 1936 Gladys married Fred Seifert. They farmed for 23 years until his health failed and he died in 1957. In 1968 she married Harley Andrick. They lived in Houghton Lake until he died in 1980. In 1982 she married Dennis Reckinger in Algonac. They moved to Burtchville Township where he died in 1987. In 1999 Gladys moved in with her daughter, Carolyn, where she has lived ever since.
She is survived by a son, Fred Seifert of Port Huron; a daughter, Carolyn Seifert of Port Huron; a daughter-in-law, Patricia Seifert of Goodells; a step-son, David Reckinger of Warren; three grandchildren, Robert (Diane) Seifert Jr. of Memphis, Mary (Richard) Pirie of Melville, and Debbie Seifert of Goodells; eight great grandchildren; several adopted grandchildren; a nephew, Floyd Andrick; and three dear cousins, Holly, Jack and Shana.
She was preceded in death by a son, Robert Seifert; a brother, Ernest Atkins; a step-son, Dennis (Joan) Reckinger; and a step-daughter, Donna Mikolowski.
Visitation will be from 2-4:30 & 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 23, 2012 in St. Martin Lutheran Church. Pastor Bill Austin and Rev. Donald Doerzbacher will officiate.
Burial will be in Kinney Cemetery, Clyde Township.
Memorials may be made to the Blue Water Area Humane Society or the churches.
