Joanne M Tomlinson

Joanne Marie Tomlinson, 83, of Croswell, a beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, January 30, 2025.

She was born June 17, 1941 in Port Huron to the late Frank and Evelyn Schrader.

Joanne was a strong independent woman and hard worker. She worked tirelessly in various local factories, eventually earning the position of foreman. She helped her father build her home from the ground up, and she was the "J" in J&L Deli, a beloved spot in downtown Port Huron that she ran alongside her lifelong friend, Loretta Strong. All the while, Joanne was a single parent, raising two sons with strength and grace.

Family and her community were the backbone of Joanne’s life. Whether she was cooking meals, playing cards, sharing her countless stories, or watching her “boys” (the Detroit Tigers) on TV, she cherished time spent with her loved ones. In Croswell, Joanne could often be found at the Ginger Snap Park or the Swinging Bridge Park, where she’d bring the grandchildren and neighborhood kids to play and start pick-up baseball games. She even coached girls’ softball for many years. Joanne loved quiet moments fishing at the cabin at Lake St. Helen and hunting for antiques. To her, family was everything and her love for them and the joy they brought to her life was evident in all she did.

She is survived by two sons, Frank (Colleen) Tomlinson and Norman Tomlinson; four beloved grandchildren, Aaron (Holly) Tomlinson, Amber (Bill) Delor, Evan Tomlinson and Nathan Tomlinson (Halli Setzer); two great grandchildren, who she lovingly called her “angels”, James Frank and Vivienne Pearl Tomlinson; many nieces and nephews; and lifelong friend, Loretta Strong. She was preceded in death by three siblings, Billy Jack Schrader, Donna Schrader Koehn and Norman Schrader. A luncheon to honor Joanne’s life will be held from 1-4 p.m. on February 15, 2025 at “The Property”, 6777 State Rd., Burtchville.
