Eva J Houston
Eva June Houston, 95, of Marysville, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 4, 2026 surrounded by her family.
Eva was born on June 20, 1930 in Bad Axe to the late Carl and Tressie Weidland and graduated from Bad Axe High School in 1948.
Eva married John Houston on June 2, 1951 and together they built a loving home. When John preceded her in death in March of 1990, Eva carried his memory forward with grace.
Eva worked at Sperry’s Department Store in downtown Port Huron and at Hudson’s, and later Macy’s in Birchwood Mall. She was a longtime, devoted member of St. Edward on the Lake Catholic Church.
Eva was artistic and creative, and enjoyed crafting and crocheting. She loved the Friday afternoons she spent playing cards with her neighborhood friends. As a mother, Eva was loving, patient, forgiving, and understanding, but had to be slightly firm to keep 7 kids in line. As a grandma, she didn’t have to worry about that. She loved spending time with her grandkids, sharing stories with them, making them laugh, and offering hugs whenever they were needed. She will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor and famous one-liners, which often left her family and friends laughing.
Eva is survived by her children, Steve (Linda) Houston, Kevin (Lois) Houston, Bryan (Cindy) Houston, Darlene (Jeff) Barber, Marlin Houston (Tina Strausser), Derrick (Joanne) Houston, and Melvin Houston; 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren who brought her great happiness; her sisters, Sarah Schenk, Ann Hagle, and Margie Wolfe; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents and husband, Eva was preceded in death by her brothers, James Ritter, Wayne Ritter, and Tim Ritter; and beloved 19 year old kitty, Holly.
Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. Sunday in the Marysville Funeral Home.
Mrs. Houston will lie in state from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 9, 2026 in St. Christopher Catholic Church, Marysville. The Reverend James Arwady will officiate.
Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Port Huron. Pallbearers will be Eva’s family.
Memorials may be made to the Blue Water Area Humane Society.
Eva will be deeply missed. It is amazing how such a small woman had such a large influence!
