Frederick J. Ward

Frederick James Ward, 82, of Wales Township, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 28, 2026.

He was born May 2, 1943 in Goodells to the late Robert and Etta Ward. He married Judith A. Bailey on May 30, 1998 in McMorran Place, Port Huron. He met Judith at the St. Clair County Medical Center, and they were friends for 60 years in total. She preceded him in death on June 8, 2024 after 26 years of marriage.

Fred dedicated 33 years of service to General Motors at the Lake Orion plant before retiring in 2000. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing and hunting, proudly bringing back two bears from trips to Newberry. He loved spending time at his cabin in West Branch, bowling in local leagues and travelling, especially to Alaska. Among the many memories shared by those who knew him best are the countless laughs spent with his friend Phil, including the occasion when they enjoyed 13 Ted’s coney dogs each.

He is survived by his son, Fred James Ward Jr.; daughter, Sarah Ward (Richard Kippen); granddaughter, Chloe Kippen (Dustin VanHorn); siblings, Emma Click and Alice (Gary) Mericle; brother-in-law, Kenneth Matthews; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and long-time friends and Judy’s cousins, Bobby (Cheri) Bailey; and his beloved dog, Sam “Chewy”. He was preceded in death by his son, Marty Ward; siblings, Roberta (Junior) Angelbrandt. Betty (Chuck) Ross, Eunice Matthews, Paulien Ward, Wanda (Donald) Dupree, and infant, David Ward; and brother-in-law, Gary Click.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 10, 2026 in Avoca United Methodist Church. Joseph Fetterly will officiate.

Burial will be in Ruby Cemetery.
