William C Hering

William C. Hering, 96, of Port Huron Township, loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away on Saturday, April 25, 2026.

He was born March 11, 1930 in Battle Creek to the late Carl and Pauline Hering. He married Jane E. Whitford on October 27, 1955 in Angola, IN. They settled in Port Huron where they were lovingly married for 66 beautiful years until Jane’s death on February 13, 2022.

Bill honorably served in the U.S. Army. He was employed as an engineer with Grand Trunk Western Railroad for 47 years prior to his retirement. In addition, he was a licensed real estate agent and auctioneer. Bill was also an amateur radio (ham) operator and an antique dealer. He was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he played guitar. Later in life he was a member of the Silver Tones, a trio of men who played at area nursing homes.

He is survived by two daughters, Candy (Phil) Maranzano and Kelly Willoughby; seven grandchildren, Bill Maranzano, Elizabeth Maranzano, Mikie (Aprill) Payionk, Chelsea (Tristan) Cummings, Stephen Hohmann, Drew Hohmann and Nick Hohmann; many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Julia Dawn Hering Payionk; and four sisters and three brothers.

Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 29, 2026 in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 30, 2026 in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Dr. Mark Madson will officiate.

Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Army.
