Walter DeVigili
Walter Josef DeVigili, 88, of Kenockee Township, died peacefully on Wednesday, May 13, 2026.
He was born in Feldkirch, Austria on May 28, 1937 to the late Johann and Regina DeVigili and spent his youth growing up in Frastanz, Austria. He married Inge Fuetscher on July 23, 1962. Walter and Inge immigrated to St. Clair Shores, Michigan in late November of 1964 with their two young sons. While living in St. Clair Shores, they welcomed a daughter, Carol. In 1966, the family moved to Roseville where they remained until 1981.
Walter worked as an injection mold maker for multiple companies before starting his own mold business in 1978. In 1981, Walter moved his family, and his business, to Avoca. He worked there with his wife and sons for 25 years until retirement.
Walter was a gifted skier, competing in ski jumping, cross-country skiing, slalom and giant slalom. He won multiple medals in Austria, was the Michigan state champion in 1972 and was the ski school director at Pine Knob ski resort for several seasons. When it wasn’t ski season, Walter was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. Music was also a big part of his life, and he played bass in the band, Edelweiss. Later in life, golf took over as his passion. Walter could often be found hitting golf balls in the back yard, or at one of the local golf courses. He loved spending time with his ever-growing family and he will truly be missed.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Inge; two children, Dieter (Kathy) DeVigili and Carol Densteadt; daughter-in-law, Kathleen Robinson; 5 grandchildren, Andrew DeVigili, Taylor (Jordan) Cureton, Olivia Densteadt (fiancé Brendan Smoots), Alexia Densteadt, and Erica DeVigili; one great grandchild, Zavier Cureton; and his sister, Rosmarie DeFago.
He was preceded in death by his son, Helmut W. DeVigili.
