Gary R Dummitt

Gary Raymond Dummitt, of Port Huron, died Friday August 7, 2026.

He was born December 16, 1942 in Port Huron to the late William Dummitt and Etta Mae Fogel. He married Barbara Witter on November 14, 1964 in St. John’s United Church of Christ.

Gary was a graduate of Port Huron High School in 1961. He was a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service for over 30 years. Gary celebrated 50 years of umpiring with ASA/USA of Michigan in the 2020 softball season. He also was a scorekeeper for basketball.

He enjoyed reading and was quick at it, and Gary was an avid sports fan watching football and baseball each year. Above all he loved his family and took great care of them.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara: sons, Charles Dummitt and Scott Dummitt; nephews and niece, James Gardner, Rick and Bill Nestle, Kristy (Craig) Snelgrove, Eric (Raechel) Witter; and several great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Donna Gardner and Lawrence Nestle.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, August 14, 2026 in St. John’s United Church of Christ. Pastor Phil Seppo will officiate.

Inurnment will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Port Huron.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Blue Water Area Humane Society or Blue Water Community Food Depot.
