John Charles Hlavaty, 72, of Marysville, died Friday, August 14, 2026.

He was born August 10, 1954 in Detroit to the late Ernest and Barbara Hlavaty. He married Barbara Odle on November 14, 2012 in Port Huron.

John graduated from Fitzgerald High School in Warren in 1972 and was employed with Detroit Edison for 35 years prior to his retirement in December of 2014. He was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church.

John loved traveling, going on cruises, riding his motorcycle, watching NASCAR and cheering on “his” Port Huron Prowlers and Detroit Tigers. He was also extremely talented at creating beautiful projects from metal and wood. Most importantly, John was incredibly proud of his family and treasured the time he spent with them.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara; children, Nathan (Robin) Hlavaty, Amber Hlavaty and Justin Hlavaty, Mandy (Matthew) Emerick, Ted Morrison and Terry (Cindy) Morrison; daughter-in-law, Rachel Scott; son-in-law, Fred Wehrwein; grandchildren, Natalie (Matthew), Sydney, Holden, Remy, Jayden, Kayla, Matthew, Austin, Christopher, Andrew, Taylor, Chanze, Brandon and Madison; great grandchildren, Iris, Monty, Dottie, Anya, Ginna, Carson, and Brenten; brother, Brian (Diane) Hlavaty; sister-in-law, Carmella Hlavaty; many nieces, nephews and cousins; his DTE family; and feline companions, Penny and Gypsy.

He was preceded in death by his step-daughter, Jeanette Wehrwein; step-son, Richard Scott; brother, Michael Hlavaty; sister, Barbara (Alan) Lewandowski; and parents-in-law, Robert and Viola Odle.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 25, 2026 in First United Methodist Church with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. The Reverend Drew Hart will officiate.

Burial will be in Caswell Cemetery, Kimball Township.
