Vivian B. Matthews West

Vivian Bernice West, 99, of Port Huron, formerly of Kimball Township, died Friday, August 14, 2026.

She was born November 24, 1926 in Port Huron to the late Cecil and Eva Bowman and graduated from Port Huron High School. She married Francis “Budd” Matthews on June 16, 1945 and they were married for 40 years until his death on April 26, 1986. She married Donald G. West on January 9, 1988 and they were married for 30 years until his death on October 31, 2018.

Vivian was a wonderful homemaker and mother, and was very proud of her large family. Caring for others was second-nature to Vivian, and she made everyone feel welcome. Feeding her family and friends was something she especially enjoyed.

Vivian joined the First Presbyterian Church of Port Huron in 1954 and maintained her membership ever since. Over the years she enjoyed singing in the church choir and volunteering on various church projects, especially food drives. Vivian was a lifelong learner and very artistic. She was especially talented in painting and needlecrafts.

Vivian is survived by four children, Scott (Susan) Matthews, Susan (Joseph) Malfait, Kim (Debra) Matthews and Marcia (Steven) Holdburg; 8 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; and many dear longtime friends. In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Arian.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Monday in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.

Funeral services will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 18, 2026 in First Presbyterian Church with visitation beginning at 10:30 a.m. The Reverend Kathy Tessin will officiate.

Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Fort Gratiot.

Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church or Mid City Nutrition.
