Thomas Lewis Portis, 84, of Kimball Township made his transition from this life on Tuesday, August 18, 2026.

He was born August 23, 1941 in Stonewall, Mississippi to the late Jonah and Ruth Portis. He was one of 13 children.

Thomas Graduated from Marysville High School where he played football and ran track. He worked at Prestolite in Port Huron until it closed. He then became an ordinance enforcer, building inspector, constable, and township supervisor of Kimball until his retirement. Thomas also owned a junkyard for many years that he operated after his retirement. He loved to play cards, spend time with family and friends, and watch the kids play. He enjoyed going to family reunions whenever he could attend.

He is survived by his son, David “Dude” Portis; 3 granddaughters, Sierra Portis, Megan Colman, and Katherine Wilson; 4 great grandchildren, Jordan Coats, Kinzley Coats, Maelynn Thurston, Bryson Colman; sister, Patricia (Clarence) Duckworth; and a host nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Alline Portis Naomi Manns, and Mary Lou Portis and his brothers, William, Rev. John, Preston, Donald, Ronald, Vernon, Robert, Preston, and Richard Portis.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 25, 2026 in Shiloh Baptist Church with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. The Reverend Lawrence Hancock will officiate.

Burial will be in Caswell Cemetery, Kimball township.
