Gilbert Torrez
Gilbert Lerma Torrez, 62, of Marysville, passed away on Saturday morning, August 25, 2012 in Port Huron Hospital with his wife, children and family at his side.
He was born April 15, 1950 in Paducah, Texas to the late Raymond and Rosa Torrez. He married Lidia Vicencio on July 12, 1986 in Port Huron. He was also preceded in death by his infant son, David Torrez.
Mr. Torrez retired from Nagel Paving and had been a hardworking laborer, operator and foreman in the construction industry throughout his career. He was a member of the Local 1191 Laborers Union and Local 468 Operators Union. He was big-hearted, giving and loved making friends and telling jokes. He will be remembered for his laugh, sense of humor, great family BBQs and fixing cars. He and his wife spent time watching freighters under the Blue Water Bridge and enjoyed casinos and Keno.
He is survived by his wife, Lidia; his children, Gilbert (Sylvia) Torrez Jr. of California, Raquel (Roger White) Childers of Brighton, Mario Torrez of Port Huron, Tara (Juan Martinez) Vicencio of Marysville, and Gabriel (Robin) Torrez of Croswell; his grandchildren, Brandon, Allison, Emily, Anna, Caitlin, Brady, Ariana, Mario, Gabriella, David, Juan, Karina, Gabriel, Ethan and Amaya Belle; great grandchildren, Natalia, Brooke and Chloe; his siblings, Dorris (Henry) Saenz of Saginaw, Louisa (Amos) Espinoza of Arizona, Tony Torrez of Novi, Danny (Pam) Torrez of Hart, Olivia (Victor) Serrano, Alicia (Jessie) Fuentes, Raymond (Abby) Torrez, Mary (John) Espinosa, Nancy (Lino) Mendoza, Josephine (Dario) Hernandez, Lidia (Brian) McAllister and Carol (Arturo) Hernandez, all of Croswell; his wife’s parents, Maria Garska and Guadalupe (Mary) Vicencio; her siblings, Gloria (John) Torrez, Mary (Ujeno) Garza, Guadalupe (Donna) Vicencio, Norma Vicencio, Cecilia (Tony) Schreiber, Hilda (Karl) Livingston, Jane (John Scott) Vicencio, Justin (Renee) Garska and Annette Carrothers; two special cousins, Lorenzo (Ruby) Lerma and Robert (Angie) Lerma; many, aunts, uncles cousins and many, many nieces, nephews, godchildren, dear friends and wonderful memories.
Visitation will be 1-3 & 5-8 p.m. Wednesday in the Marysville Funeral Home, 1200 Michigan Avenue, Marysville. A Scripture Service will be held at 5 p.m. with the Rev. Robert Schikora of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Croswell.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 30, 2012 in the Marysville Funeral Home. Mr. John Torrez III , a minister of Jehovah's Witnesses, will officiate.
Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fort Gratiot. Pallbearers will be his sons, Gilbert Torrez Jr., Mario Torrez and Gabriel Torrez, and nephews, Daniel Espinoza, Jessie Fuentes, Larry Krawczyk, Mario Vicencio and Christopher Hernandez. Honorary pallbearers will be his cousins, Lorenzo Lerma and Robert Lerma.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children's Hospital or to University of Michigan Cardiovascular Center.
