Elizabeth A Fernandez
Elizabeth Ann Jack Fernandez, 94, of Port Huron, died Friday, February 1, 2013.
She was born February 8, 1918 in Grand Rapids to the late Alexander Thomas Jack and Anna Elizabeth O'Herron. She graduated from Ottawa Hills High School, Grand Rapids and Western Michigan University, Class of 1939. She became a registered Medical Technologist in Grand Rapids until deciding to drive to Texas one winter with her mother.
She ran a medical lab in Brownsville, Texas, where she attained a private small airplane license. Her roommate's brother came home from World War II and she met her future husband, Joseph A. Fernandez. They were married on March 28, 1948 in Harlingen, Texas. Joseph later worked for U.S. Customs and eventually was transferred to Port Huron. He died February 9, 1992.
Elizabeth's many joys included reading, cooking, baking, gardening, sailing a small boat on Lake Huron, swimming, knitting and writing. She developed a specific phonic system to teach reading many years ago but completed the type setting and art work just before losing her sight so she did not see it mass produced.
She is survived by two sons, Michael Joseph (Irene Hajdo-Fernandez) Fernandez and Alexander Thomas Fernandez; and a grandson, Dr. Brandon Hajdo-Fernandez D.V.M.
Visitation will be 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Monday in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Holy Trinity Parish, St. Joseph Catholic Church.
