George Edward “Ed” Gorte, 82, of Fort Gratiot Township, died Monday, February 27, 2017.
He was born June 13, 1934 in Port Huron to the late Henry and Sophia Gorte. He married Patricia Marburg on August 8, 1964 in Lorain, Ohio. She died August 31, 2007.
Ed served in the U.S. Air Force, stationed in Europe. He was a math professor at Macomb County Community College for nearly 30 years, retiring in 1995. Ed’s passion was teaching math and he truly cared about his students. He enjoyed traveling and loved spending time with his family, especially his granddaughter.
He is survived by his son, Scott (Krystal) Gorte; granddaughter, Quinn Gorte, who he lovingly called “Cookie”; and sister, Barbara Gorte. He was preceded in death by 9 brothers and 5 sisters.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 3, 2017 in St. John’s United Church of Christ. Dr. Richard Hotchkin will officiate. Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Air Force and the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday in Christian Memorial Cemetery, Rochester Hills.
