George T McInnis

January 06, 1952 to October 09, 2026

The world lost a good man on Friday, October 9, 2026. George Thomas McInnis, 74, of Port Huron, passed away surrounded by his family from complications of Parkinson’s Disease.

He was born January 6, 1952 in Port Huron to parents Bruce and Caroline “Jean” McInnis. George grew up in Lakeport, graduated from Port Huron Northern High School and majored in Art and the Student Union at SC4. He dropped out of college to go skiing one season in Steamboat Springs, Colorado with no regrets! Upon his return, he entered the Operating Engineers’ Apprenticeship Program and became a Crane Operator for Local 324. While employed with Connelly Crane Company, George ran the big cranes on many large building projects including Comerica Park, Ford Field, the Metro Airport expansion, and the Detroit Water Tunnel.

In 1978, George met the love of his life, LeeAnne Bradley, and they were married on September 25, 1982 at The Inn at Stonecliffe on Mackinac Island. Together they raised their cherished son, Ryan Michael George McInnis, and thoroughly enjoyed being PaPa and Dubby to their grandchild, Devyn.

The early ski trip was just one stop in George’s life-long love of art, adventure, classic cars, music, travel, and enjoyment of the outdoors. Skiing was one of his passions, and to those ends, he skied all over the West from Whistler to Utah and more with his good friend, Paul DeGrow. They also hiked 80 miles in the Sierra Nevadas and climbed Mount Whitney. George also loved sailing and sailboat racing, or really anything that got him out on the water. He completed 17 Mackinac races and many regattas locally and out of state. In place of a mid-life crisis, George and his wife both became certified scuba divers. They also chartered sailboats in the British Virgin Islands on three occasions and George was part of the crew that brought the Highlander Sea to our area.

When he retired, he started a new career in photography and painting. These interests, shared with his wife, took them all over the world to many destinations in the U.S., the Caribbean, and Europe. The two of them were volunteers on the Highlander Sea, Thumbfest Music Festival, and Studio 1219. They also belonged to Blue Water Art Association, St. Clair Art Association, and Shutterbugs Photography Club. They sold their artwork at local art shows and galleries.

George was born into a big family that welcomed everyone to their celebrations, all of whom will dearly miss him. To know George was to love him because of his quick wit and his easy nature.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, LeeAnne; son, Ryan; grandchild, Devyn; brother, Jack (Karen); sisters, Valorie (Greg) Duva and Laurel McElreath Erickson; many nieces and nephews; and life-long friends, Greg and Kathy Loewenthal, Doug and Teryl Zurich, Paul and Sarah DeGrow and John and Marilyn Raymond.

A gathering to honor George’s life will take place at the Port Huron Yacht Club, date to be announced.

Memorials may be made to the Community Foundation of St. Clair County
