Obituary

Velma Louise Blatt, 77, of Fort Gratiot, died Wednesday, February 22, 2012 in Lakeland, Florida.

She was born September 15, 1934 in Port Huron to the late Walter and Edna Sparling. She married Dwight Blatt on August 15, 1954 in Port Huron.

Mrs. Blatt operated an active foster care home for 34 years, caring for numerous children. She was a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church and was active with Lakeland Wesleyan Church. She enjoyed shuffleboard and was involved with the A.R.C. and the Red Hat Society in Florida.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Dwight; five children, Dondra Blatt, Stephen (Dana) Blatt, Carolyn (James MacDonald) Blatt, Thomas Blatt and Fredrick Blatt; a daughter-in-law, Yong Sun Blatt; five grandchildren, Tiffani Blatt, Jennifer Moynihan, Cynthia Blatt, Christopher Blatt and Michael Macko; two great grandchildren, Nolyn Francek and Eric Stefanski; siblings, Theola (Jerry) Pearson, Walt (Lucille) Sparling, Shirley Houle and Jean Jahn; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Charlotte Sparling, Bill (Janet) Wurzel, Bob (Ruth) Stone and Ralph (Mary Ann) Westbrook; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Staci Blatt Yax and her daughter, Aerial; and siblings, Orval Sparling, Evelyn Jahn and Madelyn McDonald.

Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Saturday and 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Sunday in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, February 27, 2012 in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home. The Reverend Dennis Aho and the Reverend David Arnold will officiate.

Burial will be in Caswell Cemetery, Kimball Township.

Memorial contributions may be made to Lighthouse Baptist Church or Lakeland Wesleyan Church.
