Captain Patrick F. Owens, 85, of Marysville, died Tuesday, November 12, 2013.

He was born October 9, 1928 in Mt. Clemens to the late Mike and Mary Owens. He married Elizabeth McCartney in June of 1956, a year and a half after he met her. She died November 27, 1998.

Captain Owens began his marine career as a deckhand for Interlake Steamship Company in 1945 at the age of 16. In 1965 he moved to Ford Motor Company as third mate and continued to rise through the ranks to Captain. Even after his retirement, he continued as a relief Pilot with Interlake Steamship Company and with Malcolm Marine Company. He also served in the U.S. Army from 1948-1950. Pat was a member of St. Christopher Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus Marysville Council #9526, and the International Shipmasters Association Port Huron and Detroit Lodges. Each year, he volunteered with the Dossin Great Lakes Museum, and will be remembered for his sincerity, wonderful smile, and love of the Great Lakes.

He is survived by four children, Dennis Owens of Dearborn Heights, Kelley (Carl) Goertz of Rensselear, New York, Scott (Lisa) Owens of Taylor and Timothy (Athena) Owens of Redford; five grandchildren, Patrick, Sean (Jessie), Devin, Timothy and William; a great grandson, Kai; a brother, James (Marge) Owens of Cottrellville Township; and two sisters, Molly Bachler and Margaret Gilbert, both of Sun City West, Arizona. He was preceded in death by a son, Jeffery Owens.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Thursday in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home, Port Huron.

Captain Owens will lie in state from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 15, 2013 in St. Christopher Catholic Church. The Rev. Frederick Bodde will officiate.

The Rite of Committal will follow in Riverlawn Cemetery, Marysville. Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Council.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army.
