David M McEwen

October 5th, 1925 to December 1st, 2013
David Matthew McEwen, 88, of Fort Gratiot went home to be with his Savior & Lord, Jesus on Sunday, December 1, 2013.

He was born October 5, 1925 in Mason, Michigan. He was a 1943 graduate of Grand Rapids High School. He married Mary Goodrich on June 17, 1977.

Mr. McEwen served in the Merchant Marines during World War II and with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He occasionally served as watchman and wheelsman on Great Lakes ships and made 11 foreign voyages, visiting 20 countries and four continents during his seafaring career.

He graduated from Bowling Green State University in 1953 and received his Bachelor of Divinity from Asbury Theological Seminary in 1957.

He retired from the P.H.A.S.D. in 1987 after teaching high school for 29 years, the last 23 at Port Huron Northern.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Mary; three sisters, Janet (Ronald) Mitchell of Dunfries, Virginia, Marjorie Gerold of Kendallville, Indiana and Sandy Woessner of Ft. Wayne, Indiana; a brother, Charles McEwen of Mesa, Arizona; brothers and sisters-in-law, David Goodrich, Aletha & George Carroll, William Langolf, Paul Bowles and Russell H. Goodrich; and many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be from 5-8 PM Tuesday, December 3, 2013 in the Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Wednesday in the funeral home. Dr. Tim North of Griswold Street Baptist Church will officiate. Pallbearers will be David, Russell D. and Austin Goodrich and Dionell Edwards.

Burial will follow in Ruby Cemetery. Graveside military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Army and the Allied Veterans Council.
