Irene M Smith

Irene Margaret Smith, 90, from The Harrington Inn in Port Huron and recently moved from her home of many years in Dearborn, passed away Thursday, December 19.

She was born October 17, 1923, in Goodells, to Helen and Louis Lulenski. Her Catholic faith was with her always.

She was married 55 years to H. James Smith, who passed away in 2003. They enjoyed many winters living in Clearwater, Florida, and summers at Higgins Lake, Michigan.

Irene retired as Administrator for the Michigan Offices of Services to the Aging in 1984 after 20 years working in social services for the State of Michigan. She was especially proud of developing the “Meals on Wheels” program in Wayne County. She held an MSW from Wayne State University and a BA from Michigan State University. Her career started working five years in public relations for General Motors.

Irene is survived by her daughter Gloria (Bruce) Justice and their three children: Edith Irene (Jason) Zeisloft of Wichita Falls, Texas; Mary Frances Justice, of Leonard, and James Columbus Justice, of Mount Pleasant, as well as great-granddaughter Jocelynn Beatrice Zeisloft and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceeded in death by her son, Glenn James Smith, as well as six siblings: Chester (Eleanor), Robert (Frances), Frank (Helen), Edward, Zygmund, and Lucy (Joseph).

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Monday in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 24, in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home. Deacon Dennis Crimmins will officiate.

The Rite of Committal will follow at 12:00 noon in St. Hedwig Cemetery, Dearborn Heights.

Memorials may be made to Heartland Hospice.
